The U.S. Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) and President, U.S. Naval War College will co-host the 20th International Seapower Symposium at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI October 18-21, 2011. This event will allow the CNO to interact with his counterparts, chiefs of navies and coast guards from around the globe. The 20th ISS theme is “Security and Prosperity through Maritime Partnerships.”

Piracy clearly affects the world’s largest trade transport industry, but how much is it costing the world? Oceans Beyond Piracy has completed a study on the economic cost of maritime piracy. The project set out to analyze the cost of piracy to three regions: (1) the Horn of Africa; (2) Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea; (3) the Malacca Straits.
