Purpose of the Maritime Information Hubs: to facilitate and improve the sharing of information on specific topics of concern to the Global Maritime Community of Interest (GMCOI). Information Hubs have been established for the cargo, people, infrastructure and vessel domains to accomplish the functions identified in the MDA CONOPS. The Information Hubs are charged to respond to GMCOI inquiries, and to report and advocate for GMCOI requirements to improve the sharing of MDA information. GMCOI requirements which may be communicated to or become apparent to the Information Hubs will likely span a wide spectrum, from policy and legal agreements to data standards, availability, quantity or quality, to security procedures or system technical capabilities. The Information Hubs are not constituted to solve these requirements, but to communicate them to and coordinate them with the proper authorities. The value the Information Hubs add to the GMCOI is that they are positioned to leverage the federal inter-agency MDA hierarchy in responding to stakeholders’ inquiries and needs, in addition to their host agencies’ resources, and beyond the capability of any single stakeholder.
